Founding Fellows of the Texas Prosecutors Society
(November-December 2011)
The foundation is kicking off its campaign to establish a select group of supporters we're calling the Founding Fellows. Our Fellows will be part of our new membership group called the Texas Prosecutors Society. We have hand-selected 106 prosecutors and alumni from across the state whom we want to honor by including as a founding member. (The number of 106 signifies the number of years TDCAA has been in existence.) We will be sending invitations out within the next month.
We are asking the Founding Fellows to commit $250 per year for 10 years or a one-time gift of $2,500. Of course we accept larger pledges; one of our generous TDCAF Board Members pledged $10,000. The purpose of establishing the Founding Fellows program is to gather proceeds to establish a permanent endowment for the foundation.
Our Founding Fellows will be recognized at the board dinner at the Annual Criminal & Civil Law Update next SEptember, and we plan on hosting a special cocktail reception annually to recognize new members.
2011 Golf tournament and silent auction
The 2011 Annual Golf Tournament hosted by the Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation grossed over $14,000 in donations. Thank you to our generous sponsors, donors, and participants—we appreciate your support! Proceeds from the annual event will benefit the 2010 Annual Campaign.
We want to thank all of our silent auction donors and committee volunteers for their support this year. We raised over $3,000 in donations in this year's silent auction.
Thank you to all of our TDCAF Board and Advisory Committee members who attended the foundation meeting in Corpus Christi; we appreciate your continued support. We had a great meeting thanks to your input and leadership—we had a lot of great ideas come out of the meeting and we will be in touch soon to follow up on these over the next few months.
Annual Campaign needs your support!
The foundation is committed to continuing and improving the excellence TDCAA provides in educating and training Texas prosecutors, law enforcement and key personnel. This year featured our second annual campaign membership fundraising challenge, and it looks like our Investigators are in the lead again this year. But there is still time to contribute!
Three of our membership groups (investigators, key personnel, and victim assistance coordinators) have stepped up to challenge each other in their fundraising efforts. We will track the results based on dollars raised compared to percentage of membership in each of these groups. (Congratulations to the Investigator Section, pictured directional, for winning the 2010 Annual Campaign challenge. Board members Charlie Vela and Terry Vogel picked up the award at September's Annual conference.)
From elected prosecutors, we are asking for 100-percent support from all 333 electeds across the state, either through a personal unrestricted gift or a restricted gift to the Annual Campaign. You can make a pledge that can be paid out through December 31, 2011.
Why do I give?
There are many reasons to give, and we’re making it easy by including a giving envelope in this issue. Please consider filling this out and returning with a donation. For additional reasons you should consider supporting your foundation or to take a look at the brochure, please visit www.tdcaf.org
"Training for prosecutors and investigators must be unique and job-specific. The only organization that understands our situation and our needs is TDCAA, and the foundation is what enables TDCAA to meet our needs. TDCAA's outstanding training, personnel, and services cannot survive these hard economic times without the foundation. Now is the time, and your support is the difference!" — Melissa Hightower, County Attorney's Investigator in Williamson County
In the last issue we introduced our new Foundation Board members, and now we are pleased to announce the additions to our existing TDCAF Advisory Committee:
The Honorable Jim Chapman
Troy Cotton
Ashton Cumberbatch, Jr.
Norma Davenport
Jack C. Frels
Frank Harmon, III
Bill Hill
Kim Ogg
G. Dwayne Pruitt
Daniel Ronan
Charles Rosenthal, Jr.
Joe Shannon, Jr.
Johnny Sutton
Please join us in welcoming our newest members! We thank them for their leadership of and support to the Foundation. For a complete listing of TDCAF Board Members and TDCAF Advisory Committee Members, please see the masthead on the opposite page.
Investigators’ victory
Congratulations again to our Investigator Section on their 2010 Annual Campaign fundraising challenge win. The Investigator Board was presented with an award at the Investigator School in San Antonio in February 8 and also enjoyed a happy hour—courtesy of the Foundation—in their honor.
Thanks again to all of our membership groups for participating in last year’s campaign. Our Investigator Board has challenged the Key Personnel and Victim Assistance Coordinators to another fundraising Challenge in 2011, so watch this column and our website, www.tdcaf.org, for details.
Many thanks
Thank you to Calhoun District Attorney Dan Heard for setting up TDCAF introduction meetings in Port Lavaca. We would also like to thank Bert Graham for attending Foundation introduction meetings throughout the month of January.
We are excited to report that Dow Chemical Company will sponsor TDCAA’s new publication, the Family Violence Training Manual. Dow’s contribution will fund the printing and mailing of at least one book per prosecutor’s office. Thank you, Dow, for this generous support! (logo) Watch the mail over the next few weeks for your office’s copy.
Latest fundraising efforts
TDCAA will host a three-day seminar targeting the unique role of prosecutors’ office personnel in combating domestic violence. Domestic violence crimes affect all prosecutors—misdemeanor- and felony-level, rural and urban. Information in this seminar is aimed at prosecutors, investigators, and victim assistance coordinators to help them effectively investigate and prosecute domestic violence crimes as well as more compassionately and effectively provide assistance and information to domestic violence victims. TDCAF is reaching out to individuals, corporations, and foundations to support the Domestic Violence Training Program. If you know of anyone who might be interested in sponsoring this seminar, please contact me at 512/474-2436 or vitera@tdcaa.com.
Also, our Intoxication Manslaughter Course will take place June 13–17 in Corpus Christi. We are looking to partner with sponsors on this year’s training. Sponsor levels are Platinum, $10,000; Gold, $5,000; Silver, $2,500 and Bronze, $1,000. Sponsorships will benefit the Annual Campaign Fund.
And last but definitely not least, we will officially kick off our 2011 Annual Campaign in April. Three of our membership groups (investigators, key personnel, and victim assistance coordinators) have stepped up to challenge each other in their fundraising efforts again this year. We will track results based on dollars raised compared to percentage of membership in each of these groups. Stay tuned for more information on how you can give.
Miscellany
In an effort to keep Foundation expenses down, we have been including Tax ID and IRS information on donor thank-you letters. In the past we mailed out an additional receipt with this tax information around this time of year, but from now on, your thank-you letter will serve as your receipt for donations made to the Foundation. If you would like another receipt, please feel free to call me 512/474-2436 or email me at vitera@tdcaa.com.
I have been selected to participate in a program called Leadership Texas. Through it I will expand my professional associations while investigating major issues affecting the state and nation. During this program I will be traveling to Dallas, the Permian Basin, Corpus Christi, and San Antonio, looking at each city’s challenges and opportunities regarding business, economy, education, government, and technology. I plan on visiting our members and offices in these areas along the way.
Welcome to our new TDCAF Board of Directors
The Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation will kick off the New Year with a new Foundation Board. The TDCAA Board of Directors voted on the new Board at the December 1, 2010 meeting. The TDCAA Board proposed this idea to the TDCAA staff back in March as a way to enhance the foundation’s ability to develop financial support for TDCAF.
Thanks to the Planning Committee for their efforts in strategic planning for the new foundation board: Tom Bridges, Bert Graham, Pete Inman, Helen Jackson, Tom Krampitz, Barry Macha, and Mindy Montford. We are also adding a few new Advisory Committee Members to our current Advisory Committee; we will list those folks in the next issue of The Texas Prosecutor journal.
We are honored to present the 2011 TDCAF Board of Directors:

Cheers to a wondeful 2010 and a new year of success in 2011
2010 was a very busy and exciting year for the foundation. With your help and the generosity of our fellow Texans, the foundation has accomplished the following in the last year:
- raised more than $270,000 in support of the foundation (nearly $130,000 unrestricted funds and over $140,000 in restricted donations for the foundation)
- hired a senior appellate attorney, John Stride, and victim services director, Suzanne McDaniel, whose salaries are fully funded by the foundation;
- secured major support from the Anheuser-Busch Companies to produce the second DWI Summit that recently took place on November 12; thanks to our sponsors and donors for helping us raise $25,000 in support of this year’s summit; and
- honored former Harris County District Attorney Carol Vance at the third annual Champions for Justice event.

TDCAF holds successful 2nd Annual Golf Tournament
The 2010 Annual Golf Tournament hosted by the Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation grossed over $12,000 in donations. Thank you to our generous sponsors, donors and participants…..we appreciate your support! Proceeds from the annual event will benefit the 2010 Annual Campaign.
Year end giving
Please consider making a year-end gift to the 2010 Annual Campaign. TDCAF needs your support! For many members and friends of TDCAA, the end of the year is a traditional time for giving, the Foundation’s fiscal year ends December 31, 2010 so you still have time to support. Gifts to TDCAF not only provide important support for TDCAA programs but they also yield significant tax savings. Make your gift by December 31 and receive a tax break when you itemize deductions on your 2010 tax return. (Please see attached giving envelope in this issue of the Prosecutor) Thank you to all of our donors and volunteers who have made this year so successful. We still have time to exceed our fundraising goals for the year with your support!
DWI Summit-November 12, 2010
The Texas District and County Attorneys Association (TDCAA), in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., and Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation (TDCAF), is proud to offer the Guarding Texas Roadways: 2010 DWI Summit. Thank you to the following supporters of this year’s event, we are still accepting sponsorships.
Annual Conference wrap up and other news
Thank you to all of our Advisory Committee members who attended the Foundation meeting in South Padre, we appreciate your continued support. We had a great meeting thanks to your input and leadership, we had a lot of great ideas come out of the meeting and we will be in touch soon to follow up on these over the next few months. And the winner of the ipad raffle is…….Todd Smith (Investigator out of Lubbock) A big thank you to all the annual conference attendees who purchased an ipad raffle ticket in support of the Foundation. We raised close to $1,000 in support of TDCAF. Also, I want to thank the following folks for going out of their way to set up TDCAF introduction meetings in their area over the last few months. Big thanks to, Bobby Bland, Yolanda de Leon, Knox Fitzpatrick, Judge Gerald Goodwin, Clyde Herrington, Ed Jones, Julie Renken, and Judge Susan Reed.
Last Reminder for the 2010 Annual Campaign Update
This is the last reminder regarding the two fundraising goals for our membership groups: one for elected prosecutors, and one for investigators, key personnel, and victim assistants. This year we are asking all elected prosecutors to coordinate with prosecutors in their office to raise $500 in unrestricted funds for the annual campaign. If all 332 prosecutors donate at this level, the foundation will receive $166,000 in unrestricted funds. The second fundraising goal involves three of our membership groups (investigators, key personnel, and victim assistance coordinators) who have challenged each other in their fundraising. So far, the investigators are leading the way in the 2010 Annual Campaign Challenge. The Foundation will host a reception for the winning membership group at its scheduled conference in 2011 (Investigator School for investigators or Key Personnel Seminar for key personnel and victim assistance coordinators). The winning group will also receive an engraved plaque (presented at the Annual Criminal & Civil Law Update), along with recognition in the Prosecutor journal and on the website. Remember, any amount you give is appreciated.
If you have contacts within your community who would like to learn more about the Foundation, please call me at 512/474-2436.

2010 Annual Campaign has kicked off
We would like to congratulate and thank the Ector County District Attorney’s Office for 100% participation in support of the 2010 Annual Campaign. “Two weeks ago, I challenged ever member of the office to contribute to TDCAF, every single employee responded with a contribution, pledge or online donation” said R.N. Bobby Bland.
By now, I hope all of you have received the 2010 Annual Campaign letter, brochure, and your invitation to be a part of the Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation. The foundation is committed to continuing and improving the excellence TDCAA provides in educating and training Texas prosecutors, law enforcement, and key personnel. As we previously mentioned, this year, we have two fundraising goals for our membership groups, one for elected prosecutors and one for investigators, key personnel, and victim assistants.
Elected Prosecutor campaign challenge.
This year we are asking all elected prosecutors to raise $500 in unrestricted funds for the annual campaign. If all 332 prosecutors donate at this level, the foundation will receive $166,000 in unrestricted funds.
Campaign challenge- investigators, key personnel, and victim assistance coordinators
Three membership groups (investigators, key personnel, and victim assistance coordinators) have challenged each other in their fundraising. So far, the investigators are leading the way in the 2010 Annual Campaign, based on dollars raised compared to the percentage of membership in each of our competing groups (investigators, key personnel and victim assistance coordinators)— way to go!We will track future results and feature a regular update on who’s leading the way on our web site and in The Texas Prosecutor. So keep an eye out!
In Other News ....
Two major events are coming up in the next few months. One is Guarding Texas Roadways: 2010 DWI Summit on November 12, 2010. In 2008, TDCAA and the Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation (TDCAF) partnered with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Anheuser-Busch Companies, and the Busch Satellite Network to present this seminar. We trained more than 1,400 prosecutors and police officers across Texas by broadcasting live from the BSN studios in St. Louis to 36 Anheuser-Busch distributorships around Texas. Anheuser-Busch is partnering with us again in this year to broadcast another seminar, we are asking for your help in identifying corporations and individuals who might be interested in supporting this event.
Keep an eye out for information on the second Annual Foundation Golf Tournament, which will take place Wednesday, September 22 (the week of the Annual Criminal and Civil Law Update) on South Padre Island at the South Padre Island Golf Club. Funds raised through the golf tournament will support the 2010 Annual Campaign.

Third Annual Champions for Justice event to Honor Carol Vance
A frightened child whose life will be forever changed by the acts of an abuser, a grieving family trying to cope with the loss of a loved one taken from them by a drunk driver, and an elderly widow defrauded by an identity thief. Each of these victims desperately needs a champion, someone to stand up for them and seek justice on their behalf. For the better part of two decades as the district attorney in Harris County, Carol Vance was that champion.
In the three short years that the Foundation has been up and running, we have established a solid footing and are realizing our potential in bringing training and services to Texas prosecutors for the benefit of the State. In addition to that, we also recognize legendary Texas prosecutors at a Champions for Justice Event in their communities—which brings us to Carol Vance. The TDCAF will host its third Annual Champions for Justice Event on April 22, at the home of Gene and Astrid Van Dyke in Houston.
We are inviting TDCAA members to be a part of this event by making a contribution in honor of Carol Vance. Please show your support and appreciation for all that he has done for Harris County and beyond.
Tickets for this reception are $50 each, and sponsorship levels are $10,000 for Platinum, $5,000 for Gold, $2,500 for Sterling, and $1,000 for Bronze. Order tickets or make a contribution in Mr. Vance’s honor by visiting www.tdcaf .org or by contacting me at 512/474-2436 or vitera@tdcaa .com. We hope to see you there!

Looking ahead to an outstanding 2010
The last year has proved to be a success for the Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation, and with your continued support we look forward to continued success in 2010. We’ve highlighted a few successes and upcoming events below for your review.
We are proud to announce that we have 100 percent participation from the Foundation Board of Trustees in the 2009 Annual Campaign.
- Our first golf tournament (in September 2009), held in conjunction with the Annual Criminal and Civil Law Update in Corpus Christi, raised $11,000 in unrestricted funds. More than 30 golfers participated.
- In January 2010, TDCAA will have on staff a senior appellate attorney and a victim assistance coordinator. Both of these positions are funded by the foundation.
Back by popular demand: The foundation will partner with the Anheuser-Busch Companies to provide a free, one-day training on intoxication-related investigations and prosecutions to law enforcement and prosecutors in November 2010. The training, Guarding Texas Roadways, will take place at A-B distributorships across Texas and will be broadcast via satellite, just like the first such conference in 2008.
- The foundation will host the Champions for Justice event in honor of Carol Vance, former Harris County District Attorney, on April 22, 2010, in Houston. The purpose of this annual event is to raise awareness of the importance and local impact of excellence in prosecutorial education and training. Money raised from sponsorships and ticket sales will benefit the Foundation’s Annual Fund.
- Private foundations have been indentified and proposals will be submitted monthly to fund educational publications, program development, and general operating.
- The Foundation Board of Trustees and TDCAA members have taken an active role in increasing community awareness for the foundation by speaking on behalf of TDCAF in their communities and at TDCAA trainings across Texas.

There’s still time to give to the Annual Campaign
Consider making a yearend gift to the 2009 Annual Campaign. TDCAF needs your support! For many members and friends of TDCAA, the end of the year is a traditional time for giving. Gifts to TDCAF not only provide important support for TDCAA programs, but also yield significant and timely tax savings. Make your gifts to TDCAF by December 31 and you will see a tax break for this year (when you itemize deductions on your income tax return). All gifts must be completed on or before December 31 to qualify for an income tax deduction this year.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 and have 100% support from every county in Texas. If you have not had a chance to contribute, please remember that every dollar counts!
You may designate your gift for training, books, make a gift in honor or in memory of a loved one, or make an unrestricted gift for general operations. Please use the attached form to make your contribution or go online to see if your county is “colored in” at www.tdcaf.org
TDCAF celebrates third anniversary
We would like to thank you, our members, the TDCAA Board of Directors, and the TDCAF Board of Trustees and Advisory Committee for three successful years; we look forward to the foundation’s continued success in the upcoming year. The foundation is committed to educating and training Texas prosecutors and law enforcement.
2009 Annual Campaign needs your support!
As most of you know, the foundation kicked off the 2009 “Color in the Map” Annual Campaign in April. Our goal is to raise $100,000 and have 100 percent support from every Texas county. If you have not had a chance to contribute, please remember that every dollar counts! (See the map at right to find out if your county has contributed.) You may designate your gift for training or books, contribute in honor or in memory of a loved one, or make an unrestricted donation for general operations. In the next few weeks, TDCAA regional directors will be contacting elected prosecutors in their area to ask for help in reaching our goal of 100 percent participation in this year’s campaign.
Funding from individuals, foundations, corporations, and the community at large greatly increases the quality of service we are able to offer our members. I am asking you to please consider supporting the foundation by making a contribution of any size. You will find a return gift envelope in this issue of The Texas Prosecutor journal or you can go online www.tdcaf.org to make a quick and secure donation. The more funding we secure, the more effective TDCAA is in developing programs to ensure the safety and security of your communities.
We appreciate your support and consideration!

A special thanks to our Champions For Justice 2010 Planning Committee and Honorary Host Committee. This year we will honor Carol Vance, former district attorney in Harris County, and we are in the process of securing a date and location for the event in Houston. The Planning Committee held its first meeting Thursday, September 3 from 2–3 p.m. at TDCAA’s office. In addition, TDCAF is seeking corporate and private sponsors to support this year’s event. Introducing Jennifer Vitera
I am pleased to announce that our foundation has a new development director. Jennifer Vitera comes to us from the Richardson Regional Medical Center, where she served as the major gifts officer for the last few years and oversaw a very successful campaign to support its annual fundraiser and cancer center. Many of y’all in the Lufkin area may recall Jennifer from on-air news reports at the ABC affiliate.
A graduate of Southern Methodist University and Texas Woman’s University, Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and Master’s in Business Administration. In the near future you will be getting to know Jennifer and her plans for the growth of our foundation. Welcome!
Nearly 100% of Annual Campaign Achieved!
(November-December 2008)
What a wonderful 2008 it has been for the Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation! We are nearing the end of our 2nd Annual Campaign, and are very close to reaching our goal. Over $94,000 has been raised by you, our members, TDCAF friends, and others who keep the goal of improving prosecution and protecting crime victims in the forefront of thier minds. Please help us surpass our goal of $100,ooo! You have until December 31, 2008, to make a difference and show your support!
A BIG thanks goes to Matt Powell, Lubbock County District Attorney, for leading the way in West Texas. Matt went above and beyond to convey the message to area businesses, individuals, and others the important work that the Foundation and TDCAA does in the Lubbock community and beyond. Several thousand dollars was raised on my visit to Lubbock, with many more annual commitments, and a promising event to be held in 2009. Thank you, Matt Powell!
Another round of applause goes to Tony Hackebeil (38th Judicial District Attorney), John E. Terrill (266th Judicial District Attorney), and John T. Hubert (105th Judicial District Attorney). These individuals made substantial gifts from their asset forfeiture accounts. All gifts made from asset forfeiture accounts are restricted and used only for the education and training purposes of Texas prosecutors and law enforcement. We appreciate you all!
I have been on the road plenty, and enjoying every stop I make. James Eidson kindly invited me to speak to the Abilene Crimestoppers in August. I also attended a law enforcement luncheon in Midland and met several new people with a vested interest in TDCAF’s and TDCAA’s mission. I will be heading to Dallas and the surrounding area soon to meet with potential donors.
Another thank you goes to Carl Dorrough, Criminal District Attorney, Gregg County, for speaking to a local community group on TDCAF. We appreciate Carl spreading the word and gaining interest for the Foundation and TDCAA!
On December 4, we will be honoring Ronnie Earle, Travis County District Attorney, at the Champions for Justice event at the Omni Southpark (Austin). Please call the TDCAF office (512-474-2436) soon to learn more about sponsorship and tickets.
And, last but not least, don’t forget to check out our new website: www.tdcaf.org. You will be amazed at how far the Foundation has come since its inception in 2006!
Happy Birthday, TDCAF!
(September-October 2008)
TDCAF is entering into its third year! Hard to believe that once a dream in several Board and Advisory Members’ minds, the Foundation is now fully operational and growing in success. In the last two years, we have accomplished much in the way of improved educational resources, innovative ways to offer training, and new avenues for funding that would not have existed before TDCAF’s inception. And for that, we thank YOU, our members, for making this dream a reality.
The USAA Foundation (San Antonio) made a contribution to underwrite the cost of books for law enforcement attendees at the San Antonio Regional Update, held on June 27. Thank you, USAA Foundation! Another round of thanks goes to John Bradley, Williamson County District Attorney, for leading the way in asking our electeds across the state to help support a new appellate attorney position at TDCAA. This person would assist prosecutors with appellate briefs and issues, respond to e-mail and telephone requests for legal assistance, and guide the development of new legal arguments, theories, and trial tactics for Texas prosecutors.
TDCAF’s Annual Campaign continues to gain momentum. Over 20% of our goal of $100,000 has been reached. If you have not given yet, please remember that every dollar counts! It is crucial to have support from within in order to successfully ask new, outside donors to provide funding for all of TDCAA’s important work. You may designate your gift for training, the new appellate attorney position, books, in honor or in memory of a loved one, or for general operations. We appreciate your support!
I’ve just returned from the Dallas – Fort Worth area, thanking our Fort Worth Champions for Justice sponsors and visiting with new donors. Soon, I will head out west to team up with Matt Powell, Criminal District Attorney (Lubbock County) to meet with prospective local contributors. James Eidson, Criminal District Attorney (Taylor County) has invited me to speak at the Abilene Crime Stoppers luncheon later this month. Also, keep an eye out for more Champions for Justice events on the horizon. We have two locations and honorees on the radar, and plans are falling into place. More details to come.
Be sure to check out our new website: www.tdcaf.org. It has recently been polished up, and you will be most pleased. I look forward to seeing you soon!
Annual Campaign has Kicked Off!
(July-August 2008)
By now, I hope you all have received the Annual Campaign letter, our new brochure, and your invitation to be a part of the Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation. The Foundation is committed to continuing, and improving, the excellence TDCAA provides in educating and training Texas prosecutors and law enforcement. TDCAA regional directors have made a leap in their leadership by reinforcing the goal of 100% participation from all electeds across the state. We have already seen a phenomenal showing from many TDCAA members as well as friends of the foundation. THANK YOU…..and keep it up! We invite every member of TDCAA to contribute any amount to show his or her support of the work that TDCAA does to protect crime victims and keep Texas safe.
A BIG thank you to two recent donors: The Abell-Hanger Foundation (Midland) and the Prairie Foundation (Midland) made significant gifts to TDCAF to further enhance the training, education, and resources that West Texas prosecutors and law enforcement receive from TDCAA. Both Abell-Hanger and the Prairie Foundation realize the importance of supporting the Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation’s effort to provide Texas prosecutors and law enforcement with the best possible resources to keep Texas protected. Thank you!
I will be on the road again soon, heading ultimately to Wichita Falls, by way of Decatur, Graham, Vernon, and other stops. I am contacting several electeds and TDCAF supporters to make connections along the way. If you have potential donors within your community who would like to be a part of the Foundation’s dynamic growth and leadership, please call me at 512-474-2436. I look forward to meeting and visiting with you all soon!
The Foundation is in Full Swing
(May-June 2008)
The Texas District and County Attorneys Foundation has been growing by leaps and bounds in recent weeks, thanks to the energy generated by the Champions for Justice event in Fort Worth on April 17. The event, honoring longtime Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney Tim Curry, has allowed me the pleasure of meeting with several new sponsors in the Fort Worth area. Be on the lookout for an extended recap of the event in the July–August issue of this journal.
I have been on the road to West Texas and the Galveston area. Midland, Ozona, Sonora, and Odessa came through with generous contributions, thanks to encouraging support from Teresa Clingman (Midland County District Attorney), Laurie English (112th Judicial District Attorney), and Bobby Bland (Ector County District Attorney). And a very special thanks to the John L. and Maurine Cox Foundation (Midland), which underwrote the cost of the additional books needed for our recent DWI Summit, Guarding Texas Roadways.
I also traveled southeast to visit with Mike Guarino (Galveston), Jerilynn Yenne (Brazoria County Criminal District Attorney), and Kurt Sistrunk (Galveston County Criminal District Attorney). Kudos to Mike, Jeri, and Kurt for their willingness to generate funding for the foundation in their local communities.
As always, I remain enthusiastic to visit with you regarding the Foundation. If you would like to have an event in your area, honor or memorialize a friend, colleague, or family member, or simply discuss ideas pertaining to the Foundation, please call me at 512-474-2436.
